CARING FOR YOUR Laminate

Even if you don’t have a lot of spare time, there are some quick and easy tasks you can perform regularly to protect the look and longevity of your laminate  floors. Simple preventative maintenance will go a long way to keep your laminate looking as good as new for years to come.

Encourage the removal of outdoor shoes before walking across the floor so dirt isn’t tracked into the house. Place entryway mats to prevent dirt, oil, sand or other scratching particles from tracking onto your floor.

Heavy appliances can cause dents or marks on your flooring over time; protect your flooring by placing heavy appliances on mats. An area rug is also a great way to protect sections of your laminate flooring that are exposed to heavier foot traffic.

Vacuum or dry mop regularly. Use a damp mop only when needed. Over use of water can cause the laminate to warp, swell or even separate at the joints.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or items like steel wool and keep your pet’s nails trimmed. They will scratch the surface of the floors.

For an occasional deeper clean for your laminate flooring, use a manufacturer approved hard surface cleaner.

DEALING WITH SPILLS & STAINS

No matter how careful you are or how much you stick to your maintenance routine, life happens. Your laminate will still likely experience the occasional spill or mess, especially if you have kids or pets.

Spills and messes happen so it’s important to know how to clean these inevitabilities without damaging your floor. Common household messes like spills and soil should wipe or sweep away clean.

Clean spills up immediately to prevent water damage, and never wax or polish laminate floors.
